Manitoba Opera 21/22 Season Creative
With COVID-19 limiting live performances in 2020, Manitoba Opera wanted to ensure that the show season creative for their in-person 21/22 season had a distinct look and feel. Not only did they want to excite their audience to coming back to the opera, but to also leverage the two shows unique and modern set design (modern for opera, that is).
The season creative plays off of the show’s 1950s set and costume design. Both operas are tied together with playful almost cartoon-like typography, a vibrant colour palette, and a worn texture overlay.
For Cenerentola, I took inspiration from a fashion sketch from the show's costume designer. This dress is one of the iconic haute couture costumes featured in the show. The Telephone/Voix Humaine features an illustration of a telephone - the main prop used in the opera. The frayed and disconnected wire eludes to the sorrow tone of the opera.
